it conveys the time and insights into their relationship (see the contact name)

tone can be interpreted through text messages better than written dialogue

even the slight difference of say, removing the punctuation to give them a more nervous/rushed or cool tone, the use of capitalization or not to express about their personality, typos are good for conveying genuine panic. or if theyre gay they can do “blhskgslhslshlhdbdjd” instead of “lol”
